Hi, it’s Dr Michael Ghobrial here from Sure Dental. Last week I was chatting to a patient, Thea, who lives here in Wavell Heights, and she had come in to discuss whether dental implants would be something that could be helpful for her as she’s lost quite a few teeth over the years, and is beginning to find it a little bit difficult to chew.
This is such a common question we get asked often people want to know, “Will a dental implant help me in my situation?” So I thought I would record this video and give you three of the top reasons as to why people will opt to go down the path of looking into dental implants.
- When you have a missing tooth, and we’re looking to replace that tooth, and we want to do it without touching the adjacent teeth. So we don’t want to harm the adjacent teeth, we don’t want to rely on the adjacent teeth to take any load, excess load, and we want a single tooth solution for a single tooth problem. And in that case, a dental implant can be a really great option to replace the tooth in a fixed way, it doesn’t come in and out like a denture, and it’s pretty simple to clean. It does need maintenance like everything, but it can be a wonderful solution.
- Patients come in, and they really have issues with their dentures, their false teeth that are rocking and uncomfortable to function with, or maybe loose and falling out, and dental implants can be used to either support dentures and make them less rocky and more retentive and stay in your mouth so you can function with it more comfortably, or they can even be used to make a fixed bridge, or a fixed solution, so that you can get rid of the denture altogether and have implant-supported teeth.
- It is a little bit like Thea, where people slowly over time are finding it a little bit harder to chew because of missing teeth. They haven’t gone down the denture road, but they’re noticing that their front teeth are wearing and fracturing because there’s not as much support in the back of the mouth. And in those cases, a dental implant could be helpful as well to give you a little bit more to chew with.
So there are three of many reasons why people might opt to go for dental implants, and if you’re struggling with a missing tooth and you don’t want to touch the adjacent teeth, if you have issues with your denture, or if you’re just generally noticing your front teeth are wearing down and things are getting a little bit hard to chew, maybe it’s a good time to get your mouth assessed and see whether dental implants might be something that might be helpful to you.
