Invisalign Brisbane, Wavell Heights, Clayfield

Invisalign is a proven method of orthodontic treatment that can help bring your teeth into alignment faster and with less discomfort than traditional braces. The treatment length will vary by each person’s situation, but on average Invisalign treatment is completed within one year. Invisalign is a popular choice around the world for dental improvements related to crowding, an excess spacing of teeth, and misalignment of the bite.

What Is Invisalign?

Invented in 1997 in California, Invisalign is most well-known for how inconspicuous it is. In addition to the cosmetic benefit this offers, Invisalign is a reliable product that moves teeth efficiently and predictably. Invisalign works by applying gradual pressure to your teeth with transparent aligners. These aligners are fully customised to your mouth, and are switched regularly to maximise your treatment progress.

Difference Between Invisalign and Traditional Braces

A considerable difference between Invisalign and traditional braces is that Invisalign aligners are completely removable. This allows substantial flexibility in your treatment. Should you be getting married or attending a special event, you may remove your aligners temporarily. Invisalign is also more subtle than traditional braces. The aligners are clear plastic and difficult to see. As a result, the treatment has little to no effect in the workplace and on your social life. From a financial perspective, Invisalign is a slightly greater investment than traditional braces. However, fewer follow-up appointments are typically required for Invisalign patients.

Invisalign vs Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a treatment option to improve the appearance of teeth. They are thin, custom-made tooth coverings that are permanently bonded to your teeth. Depending on the number of porcelain veneers required, Invisalign is a similar investment. However, if your primary concern is tooth position and your teeth have good structure, we recommend repositioning your teeth rather than putting on porcelain veneers. Straightening your teeth will help your smile look fantastic, while keeping your natural, healthy teeth intact.

Who Can Use Invisalign

Most people are candidates for Invisalign, but you will need to come in for a thorough examination so we can evaluate your specific needs. Invisalign is a popular choice with patients of all ages and demographics.

Children and teenagers who may be uncertain about having metal braces put on their teeth are often more comfortable with Invisalign.

Adults who want their teeth straightened without wearing braces also choose Invisalign. Adults may have had braces in the past and are now experiencing shifting teeth, or they may not have had the opportunity for braces as children.

Invisalign is appropriate for patients of any age who are ready to have the smile they have always wanted.

Lovely staff, highly professional and proactive in both communication and service. Always on time! I actually don’t think I have had such a comprehensively outstanding service at any other office in the health domain.

Maintenance for Invisalign

To ensure you receive the maximum benefit from your treatment, you should wear your Invisalign aligners 22 hours each day. You can remove them for eating and drinking, and for longer periods of time if there is a special occasion. However, when you are committed to wearing your aligners you will see progress remarkably quickly.

Another maintenance routine you will need to adopt while using Invisalign is brushing and flossing your teeth every time you eat before replacing your aligners. When eating without aligners, the natural environment in your mouth changes to protect your teeth from the harmful effects of sugars and acids in foods. If you replace your aligners without first cleaning your teeth, you may trap these harmful components against your teeth. Bacteria are then more likely to build up along your teeth and gums and cause damage.

You will need to come in for follow-up visits after your treatment begins. Once you have been fitted with your first Invisalign aligners, you will return to our office every month or two for progress monitoring, depending on your specific needs.

Potential Risks with Invisalign

As with any treatment to move teeth, there are risks of tooth resorption and gum recession. However, we mitigate those risks with a thorough pre-treatment assessment and digital x-rays to examine the roots in each patient. The biggest risk from Invisalign, and any orthodontic treatment, is tooth decay. It is important to remove your Invisalign aligners to brush and floss your teeth after eating to maintain proper dental hygiene.

When the aligners begin to shift your teeth, you will feel some discomfort. Invisalign moves teeth more gradually than traditional braces, so the discomfort will be milder. The aligners should stay in place for 22 hours each day, and at first this may cause some initial irritation to your soft tissues in your mouth. Your mouth will quickly grow accustomed to it.

Health Benefits of Using Invisalign

There are several health benefits when choosing Invisalign. The convenience of being able to remove your aligners means that your risk of infection from poor dental hygiene is much lower than with traditional braces. It is easier to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy without the hardware attached to your teeth.

When you have finished your treatment and have straight teeth, your teeth will continue to be easier to clean and less prone to tooth wear. Straight teeth also help keep your gums healthy and improve your speech. Good dental health contributes to better overall health, so you will feel a lasting impact on your treatment.
