Hi, it’s Dr Michael Ghobrial here from Sure Dental at Wavell Heights in Brisbane.
I met an awesome young patient, Brenton, who lives at Wavell Heights a few weeks ago. He came in to have a chat to me about the spaces that are in between his teeth. He was asking what his options are. It got me thinking, it’s not always a simple answer as to how to close the gaps between your front teeth. So I thought I’d record this video to help you understand what may be your options if you’ve got spaces between your teeth.

There’s multiple reasons for spacing between teeth. One of those is just that there’s literally too much space between the teeth, in these cases the teeth are a good shape, they have good form, they’re a good size. It’s just that there are gaps between them, and in those cases, often orthodontic treatment, whether that be braces or Invisalign is a wonderful way to close those gaps without having to touch the teeth and it gives a really nice result.
But sometimes, the gaps are actually because the teeth are undersized. Closing the gaps still looks a bit funny and we end up with big gaps elsewhere. In those cases, orthodontics isn’t always the best option to close those gaps. But in actual fact, re-establishing good shape, form, and size of those teeth is going to give you a much nicer result.
The ways we do that is through veneers or bonding. We can do that via porcelain veneers, which give a really beautiful, predictable long-term result, or we can do this by resin veneers or resin bonding, which also gives a nice result, but doesn’t quite hold its color and form for quite as long, but also gives a slightly more cost effective option for closing those gaps nicely.
If you do have gaps between your teeth and you’re wondering what might be the best way to fix that, what you really need to start off with is a good smile assessment. Some great photos, ideally a 3D scan so that a mock-up can be done digitally, where we assess what it would look like if we close the gaps orthodontically, versus what it will look like if we make the teeth a little bit bigger and better form, and then we try that in and show our patients. From there, we decide which option is the best to go with.

If you’ve got gaps between your teeth and you want us to assess it for you, we would love to help. We’ll take some photos. We’ll take a 3D scan. We’ll do some mock-ups, and show you what can be done and what might be the best option for you.
