In July 2023, our local church partners in Uganda identified families in need and engaged them in planning an income generation project focused on livestock farming. A baseline survey was conducted, where 25 households from each child development centre were sampled, allowing the impact of the project to be effectively monitored.
With our generous support, caregivers at 6 centers have already begun livestock training. They learned skills like animal selection and breeding, parasite management, housing and hygiene, marketing, and business record keeping.
Two centers, UG0135 and UG0715, purchased and distributed sheep, goats, and pigs to caregivers. Our church partners also connected families with savings groups to maximise incomes. Through negotiations, we expanded support to 27 additional families.
Our church partners report that as caregivers gain skills and resources, they’re realising they can become self-sufficient and break free from poverty long-term. This income generation project is empowering Ugandan families.
